Live with Mayor Joe Preston for Mayor’s Update Episode 55

Mental Health Week, Drinking Water Week, and Emergency Preparedness Week kick off today, Monday May 4. Flags may still be raised, based on the preference of the groups, however no groups will be able to gather, as per COVID-19 precautions.

The Horton Farmers Market will potentially open May 30. The City is currently waiting for a plan and budget from the Market Board. It is unclear if vendors selling ‘non-essential’ goods will be able to attend at this time.

Some businesses are beginning to re-open in our City today. Some construction projects re-commenced today as well (Center Street and Elm Street, for example).

Garden centers have been running using curbside or delivery. Marinas and golf courses have been told they can begin to prepare for re-open (hire staff, cut greens, etc.) but have not been given a re-open date as of yet.

Mayor Preston supports re-opening, everything in due time-but will do so in accordance with the Provincial government’s timelines, guidelines, and regulations.

Mayor Preston is asking for feedback for the City’s St. Thomas Transportation plan. What’s important to you about getting around the city? Have your say! Visit www.stthomas.ca/tmp or complete the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/StThomasTMP. Deadline for survey submissions is Friday, May 8, 2020.

Southwestern Public Health will have a list of what safety precautions businesses will need to put in place, in order to re-open.

St. Thomas will look at establishing ten, 1-bedroom apartments in the upper levels of the transit building on Talbot Street.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Thomas-Elgin are hosting a fashion-show, featuring Mugford Shoes, Harris Flower Farm & Pastured Pork, and 94.1 myFM, which will live stream on their Facebook page courtesy of Establish Media on Thursday May 7, at 7pm.
