Welcome to our weekly series, The Railway City Mayor’s Update with our Mayor, Joe Preston.

This week we covered new transit funding, new industry, the Holland Street sidewalk, water metering, zoning changes, the Senior Centre BBQ, Iron Horse Festival, and BACA.

Transit – Jeff Yurek announced last week that the provincial government is providing 1.8 million toward transit improvements in St. Thomas.

New Industry – Element5 held a press conference last week and the homebuilders and real-estate community were having great conversations with Element5 at the conference. Looking forward to attracting more diversified business to St. Thomas.

Holland Street Sidewalk – The sidewalk is contoured so the water drains properly.

Water Metering – The city is looking at developing a fund to help cover issues when there appears to be a metering issue or an outside leak.

Zoning Change – Final zoning change for 59 Metcalfe, a 15 unit building, passed. It is important to bring housing into our community.

Seniors Centre – 25 Year anniversary BBQ on Friday 5pm-9pm.

Iron Horse Festival – Thursday through to Sunday. Aug 15th-Aug 18th.

Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) – The mayor met with BACA, a group of bikers that provide support for abused children and that will be doing some fundraising in the community for their work.
