St. Thomas Public Library hosted their first-ever Drag Queen Storytime in partnership with the
Rainbow Optimist Club on Saturday, August 10! Over 90 people of all ages attended this
special storytime, which celebrated inclusivity and being yourself. Performers Lita and Miss
Shaneen captivated the audience with their beautiful outfits and read stories about
acceptance and diversity like A Family is a Family by Sarah O’Leary. They also sung lively
songs and finished off the storytime with a dance party to “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge.
“We’re really proud to be part of such a diverse community and we were happy to see this
event so well-supported and attended,” said Crystal Jeffery, Children’s and Teens’ Services
Coordinator at the library. “We want to thank the Rainbow Optimist Club for helping to get this
organized, and of course thanks to Lita and Miss Shaneen for putting on such a fun
storytime!”
