April 15th the Inn Out of the Cold program shuts down. This leaves the homeless population in St. Thomas looking for places to spend the night during the spring and summer months. The Mayor and City council have been working with Inn Out of the Cold and other community groups to find a way for St. Thomas to have a year round homeless shelter for people to stay at. In the next week or so City Council is hoping to be able to have everything in place to make a formal announcement.

The plan is for this to be more than a shelter. It will also help people find a pathway to true housing. The hope is to navigate these people towards housing by finding out what their challenges are and then helping them surmount them.

This program will also need volunteers. If you would like to help, talk to CMHA, talk to the city, talk to Inn Out of the Cold, touch base with the Mayor on his Facebook page.

Stay tuned for more details. We’ll post them as they become available.
