The Horton Farmers’ Market was packed today as people stopped by to stock up on all the meat, produce, and baked goods they wanted for the Canada Day long weekend. The St. Thomas firefighters were also in attendance and brought a truck out that kids could jump up into.
“We had a great turnout! It was fun having the firefighters showcasing their truck for the kids, and big thank you to the Mayor, Councillors, and our community for their unwavering support of our Market” – Vicki Axford, Market Manager
At 10am the Mayor and several St. Thomas City Councillors were in attendance to sing O’Canada with “Essence of Rain” and cut and serve cake to market attendees.
Another fantastic weekend at the The Horton Farmers Market – and this weekend there was even free cake coutesy of the city!

I stopped by to catch the action and snap some shots of vendors and their wares. I also got a chance to reacquaint myself with Josie, who’s been coming to the market since the 70’s and even remembers when I used to come to the market to sell strawberries with my parents! It was Josie’s last day at the market today, as she’s decided it’s time to retire, so I got a shot of her and her husband in front of their booth.
It’s fantastic to see how vibrant the market has become since it’s revitalization in 2006. I look forward to watching as it continues to grow with strong support from council and the community.
