On Saturday, April 13, The Historic Princess Avenue Playhouse, home of the Elgin Theatre Guild, will be rocking when London based singer-songwriter and her band come to perform in St. Thomas. Part of 331arts’ “Off The Rails” music series that is bringing high quality musical talent to St. Thomas, Sarah Smith is a captivating performer not to be missed.
Smith’s powerful voice and introspective pop/rock songwriting have earned her a wide following through years of touring in Canada, the United States, and Europe. Sarah is a seasoned road warrior, playing over 200 shows per year. Along the way, she has shared the stage with artists including Carole Pope, Sass Jordan, Biff Naked, Emm Gryner, Joel Plaskett, David Wilcox, 54-40, The Tea Party and many others. Sarah has won many awards throughout her career, including: Best Adult Contemporary at The Toronto Independent Music Awards, Best Rock Artist at the London Music Awards and Best Singer/Songwriter & Best Rock Artist at The Jack Richardson Music Awards.
London, Ontario-based duo The Marrieds, who are in fact married, will open the show. The Marrieds are known for their “folk-country sound filled with playful lyrics and sweet harmonies”. They have played for audiences across Canada, winning praise for their songwriting, performances, and charm. In 2017, The Marrieds won a Jack Richardson London Music Award in the Folk/Roots Category, and a nomination for Video of the Year. In 2014, they won in the same category and also picked up the CHRW Juried Local Album of the Year Award.
